Sullivan County and the O&W Railroad

A free program held at the Time and the Valleys Museum on St. Rt. 55 in Grahamsville, Sullivan County. The Ontario & Western Railway Historical Society will give a presentation on the O&W and predecessor the New York and Oswego Midland. In the late 1870’s, the New York, Ontario and Western served Ulster, Sullivan, and Delaware counties until its abandonment in 1957. Whippany Railway Museum – 2015 Railway Hobby Show

As part of the Whippany Railway Museum’s 50th Anniversary celebration, we will be hosting the 2015 Railway Hobby Show on Sunday, May 17th on the Museum grounds at Whippany. http://www.whippanyrailwaymuseum.net/eventstickets/railway-hobby-show

We will also be operating the Morris County Central Railroad 50th Anniversary excursion trains on this day with 1965-era fares… we expect a very good turnout. The event will be held rain or shine (no rain date).

NEW YORK, NY—The United Railroad Historical Society will hold its first-ever rail excursion series, beginning on March 28th. The month-long stint, based out of New York City, will feature the URHS’s signature day-trip to Albany, The Hudson Limited, as well as a new overnight trip to Washington DC’s National Cherry Blossom Festival. Seats for all trips are available aboard both the Hickory Creek.

The Cherry Blossom Special

The Cherry Blossom Special is a new, overnight trip to the National Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington DC. Trips will be run on the weekends of April 4-5. On board, passengers will be waited on with first-class service at their seats, which will include complementary Mimosas as well as a continental breakfast on the southbound trip. On the return trip to New York, passengers will be seated for a first-class dinner cooked on-board, with beer and wine served throughout the trip. All meals and drinks on board are included in the price of the ticket.

The Hickory Creek and 43 will depart New York Penn Station at 7:05 a.m. and arrive in Washington DC at 10:25 a.m. on the tail of Amtrak’s Carolinian. Passengers will receive a special discounted rate at the Hyatt Place Washington, which is one Metro stop away from Union Station. To receive this rate (not included in the ticket price), rooms must be booked at least 30 days prior to the event (March 4th).

Passengers riding the train will need to purchase a hotel room for the layover in Washington DC. Passengers will then have time to tour the nation’s capital at their leisure until the return trip, which departs Washington Union Station at 4:06 p.m. and arrives in New York at 8:47 p.m. The April 4-5 trip will coincide with the Southwest Waterfront Fireworks Festival.

The Hudson Limited

The Hudson Limited is the signature trip of the URHS and the Hickory Creek, and travels round-trip to Amtrak’s Albany-Rensselaer Station. Both the Hickory Creek will depart New York Penn Station at 11:20 a.m., and return to New York at 6:50 p.m. Between New York City and Albany, passengers will be served complementary drinks, beer, wine, and hot hors d’oeuvres at their seats by the URHS volunteer staff. The northbound trip will also include a first-class meal, cooked onboard the train. These day trips will be held on March 28 and 29 and again on April 11, and 12. The route of this trip traces the original New York Central “Water Level Route”, meaning passengers will be riding over the home rails of the 20th Century Limited and the Hickory Creek.
