The June 5th O&WRHS Meeting will have a presentation about the O&W’s Scranton Division by Walter Kierzkowski. Walt grew up in Jermyn and has extensive knowledge, not to mention some magnificent photos of this vital connection between the coal fields of Pa. to the energy hungry markets of New York and New England via the O&W’s elaborate and extensive system.
The Meeting is open to the public, you do not need to be an O&…WRHS Member. Doors open at 7:30, followed by a business meeting, short intermission and the show generally starts sometime around 8:30.
This is the last meeting until September which will be held on Friday September 4th. The program will be by one of our newest members Hans Segboer; The Program will be –“ The Erie Greenwood Lake Division, including the Ringwood Branch.”
O&WRHS Meeting are held at the Mulberry House Senior Center/aka Middletown Senior Center. 62-70, West Main Street, Middletown NY.
Saturday, June 13th – There will be a series of presentations on the Northern Division of the New York Ontario and Western Railway at the Chenango County Historical Society, 45 Rexford Street in Norwich, New York. Three presentations from Jeff Otto (Fulton), John Taibi (Northern Division Milk Trains) and Bob Earle (The Flying Diesel Corps.) will cover a variety of subjects sure to interest all. Come early and visit the museum, plus the nearby Northeast Classic Car Museum and the Bull Thistle Model Railroad Society. Presentations begin at 1:00 and conclude by 5:00 with breaks between each.
Sunday June 28th at 2:00 pm at the Community room of the Grahamsville Library (328 Main Street); — Starting with predecessor the New York and Oswego Midland in the late 1870’s, the New York, Ontario and Western served Ulster, Sullivan, and Delaware counties until its abandonment in 1957. Examined will be the town’s and industries it served along the route, major construction features, and impact on local tourism throughout its existence.
Sunday July 26th – O&WRHS Middletown Railroad Day, 10am to 4pm, Mulberry House Senior Center, Middletown, free admission. Presentation “The Harriman Incline Railway” By Alex Prizgintas, begins at 11 am.
