Join the United Railroad Historical Society of New Jersey for a celebration of New Jersey's railroad and transportation legacy. Over a dozen pieces of restored historic railroad equipment will be open to the public during this exhibition, in coordination with the annual Boonton Day street fair.

Railroad Museum [for a day] is hosted by the United Railroad Historical Society of New Jersey, owners of the largest and most historic railroad collection in New Jersey. During this once-a-year event, the URHS Restoration Facility in Boonton, NJ will become New Jersey's largest railroad museum. Railroad Museum [for a day] provides a rare and family-friendly opportunity to explore, admire, and go inside our historic trains and learn about their connection to the region we live in.

SPECIAL VISITING EXHIBITS TO BE ANNOUNCED!

TRANSPORTATION:

NEW this year: take the train to the festival! For one day only, NJ TRANSIT will activate special one-day shuttle service between Denville and Boonton, making it easier for people traveling from Penn Station New York and points in between, to attend our annual celebration of railroad history.

The “Boonton Scoot” special shuttle trains will meet certain regularly scheduled NJ TRANSIT trains to and from New York City at the Denville Station transfer point. Riders may purchase regular tickets to Boonton Station through the NJ TRANSIT app and ticket vending machines. However, real-time arrival and departure information will not be available for the shuttle since it is a special service. Instead, riders can view the full shuttle schedule on the Morristown Line at njtransit.com/scoot.

To get to the event from the Boonton train station, there is a 6-minute, 0.2 mi. walk that includes a modest hill. Alternatively, a shuttle bus will be available direct to the gate, with priority given to passengers with disabilities. 

PARKING:

Event parking is available at the Upper Plane Street municipal lot (click here for directions). This lot is located directly adjacent to the Boonton Day street fair on Main Street, and a free shuttle bus will be available to take you to Museum [for a day].

ACCESSIBILITY:

Parking for those with state disabled parking permits is available upon request on-site at 104 Morris Ave. Boonton, NJ. Due to the historic nature of our artifacts, our locomotives and cars and not wheelchair accessible. Our grounds and flat and accessible by wheelchair, although much of the terrain is coarse gravel.
